Trish Smith’s students are learning about emergent readers and
writers. She plans to use the videos both in class, to point out
development of readers, and during end of course testing.
Ms. Smith plans to use the video in different ways. It
can be shown at the beginning of the unit, as a visual focus before the
discussion of each cognitive level. They will be used to show the learning
process of reading and writing in young children. The class can watch the
segments and try to ascertain something about that child’s cognitive
level before the lesson.
The video can be used as an evaluation at the end of
the lesson, to test the same students that viewed the segments previously and
see if they would focus on the concepts learned in class. It was because of
this intended use that Ms. Smith did not want the name of the cognitive level
in the videos.
